Janet has worked in Social Housing for 40 years, with a career as several Housing Associations including Places for People, Newcastle and Whitley, Anchor, Riverside and YMCA.

Janet has specialised in Supported Housing and having housed thousands of people throughout her career Janet has become a subject matter expert in this field.

Here’s what Janet has to say;

“Social Housing has changed over the years, and the need has increased. The purpose of social housing is to provide safe, decent affordable homes for those who cannot afford to buy on the open market.

When we provide a home for a single person or a family it gives them stability, improves wellbeing, greater security, and a foundation for them to grow.

When you don’t have a home/address you cant open a bank account employment is more difficult and your dignity is taken away.

That’s why we have developed Housing4Good, to help local authorities and charities to find good affordable accommodation for those who are marginalised.

Housing 4 Good is here to help to build communities, we encourage people to thrive, belong, and contribute to their community. Working alongside our charity partners, our residents experience improved outcomes, better health, reduced debt, increased school attendance, and better employment prospects.

We aim to serve lower-income individuals and families people at risk of homelessness, and those with specific medical or disability needs.

In my 40 years of housing, I have seen the difference a good home can make. I have also witnessed that the people who need our help are from all backgrounds single, families, nurses, firemen, professional people, those who work for minimum wage.

The need for supported accommodation has risen sharply.

Working together we can start to turn the tide. And give everyone the opportunity to flourish.”
